After a severe illness, Prof. Heintel passed away on July 12, 2018. With him, the University College for Teacher Training Carinthia - Viktor Frankl Hochschule lost an extraordinary intellectual, mentor, and supporter.

Self-determination is connected to our trust in life, to our hope, our readiness to make decisions, and our capacity for action. We lose courage for our self-determination, where indifference sets in and where we lose our ability to love something or to suffer for something. Crucial is our capability for recognizing the difference between self- and foreign determination and for finding good reasons to decide for our autonomy.

Dr. Franz Joseph Huainigg

Short biography
Franz Joseph Huainigg, born in 1966 in Paternion, Carinthia, is an author, media educator, and cabaret artist. For 15 years, he was a member of the Austrian Parliament, where he served as speaker for people with disabilities and development cooperation. He can neither move hands nor legs and lives with an electric wheelchair. His life depends on a respirator. Despite this, he succeeds to live a fulfilling life. With his wife and two children, he lives in Vienna.
